DESCRIPTION: Found singly or in small groups these hairless galls begin life as a peachy-apricot egg-shaped construction before rounding off and becoming a striking red in colour, spotted with paler marks. Each gall contains a single larvae of the causal sawfly. The larvae leaves the gall in late summer and pupates in the ground. DISTRIBUTION: Locally common. HABITAT: On the central vein on the undersides of leaves of various Osiers and Willows. |
